I recorded a new CD with Annapolis/DC/Baltimore area Latin jazz group, AfroBop Alliance. Among the special guests appearing on this record are two Grammy winners, master conguero Poncho Sanchez, and the mallet guru, Dave Samuels. The CD has been picked up by Laurel Hill Records, and will be released by Mambo Maniacs in January 2007. More info on the Recordings page. Recently released is a long overdue solo project by Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet leader, Ginny Carr. "After All These Years" is a nice mix of styles and textures, and features drummer Frank Russo, guitarist Paul Pieper, vibraphonist Chuck Redd & saxophonist Chris Vadala. More info on the Recordings page. There is also a big band project co-led by composer/arranger/saxophonist/pianist Vince Norman and drummer Joe McCarthy, featuring 9 of Vinny's original compositions - The band is stacked with DC area heavies. This CD is now available directly from Joe McCarthy, and details are available on the Recordings page. February saw another big band recording. This time by Dave Samuels, featuring arrangements of several compositions previously released by his group, the Caribbean Jazz Project. |

If you're in
the mood to slam, this is where you need to be!
Once
in a while it happens - and this was my turn!
I flew out to Indianapolis,
IN last Saturday (2/15) - presumably to perform a one nighter with Suede. We had
a great show, and even the rental Eminence EUB was fun to play :)
Mother nature
decided it was time to blanket (or was it smother) the mid-Atlantic with two feet
of snow - which closed airports - and chances are that with 2,100 flights cancelled,
I'm not telling you anything new! Suede & pianist David
Pearl were able to fly out as scheduled on Sunday morning, since their destinations
were ahead of the storm. Me, ..... well I spent an extra 3 days stranded in the
Indianapolis Sheraton. Thanks to everyone who extended their assistance to me while trapped in Indy. I am very relieved to be back home, and join in the slow
process of digging out.
CONGRATULATIONS

Brown
1926 - 2002
The
passing of Ray Brown fills me with an
enormous sense of loss.
We owe him
so much for his spirit, his music, and his dedication as an educator. Ray will
be missed.

For the past 3 months, I was privileged to share Tuesday evenings with
Pam
Bricker & Chuck
Underwood at Acropolis in Washington, DC. Budget constraints have put
a hiatus on the gig, so the search is on for another venue...... BUT - we are
in the studio working on what proves to be a very exciting recording.....
