On The Day We Met

© 1999 by David Pearl

I won't speak of sad goodbyes
Of endings or of teary eyes any more,
not any more.
Now I see my past heartbreaks as necessary life mistakes;
Affairs, just affairs.
I see them from an evolutionary point of view,
Like stages that were gradually leading me to you.

On the Day We Met
All the world was in tune.
Robins and larks sang along with the loon.
Lilacs and lilly pads gave of their blossoms,
Astral alignment awoke something awesome,
Forces conspired, our hearts were hard wired to rendezvous.
There were rainbows, yet not a cloud in the sky.
Rivers reflected the colors up high.
Smiles on our faces projected the places
Our hearts would be leading us, Pleading us,
"Don't look away, this is a sign!
Listen, let go, let our lives intertwine!"

All at once I knew it would be.
Never a doubt; you were sent to me, meant to be mine.
We were given a love for all time.
All our kisses still taste as divine.
And it started with our tete-a-tete
On the Day We Met.
